The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it has uncovered some private security firms operating illegally in the country and would start prosecuting them from January 2016.
Kalu, who called on the stakeholders to be on the lookout for suspected unregistered PGC and report them for prompt action, added that this has become necessary following the rising trend of global insecurity and the need to eliminate quacks from the security industry.
According to the NSCDC commandant, the corps was dismayed that some PGCs carry out recruitment exercises and training of personnel without the approval of the regulatory body. “Some companies have not renewed their license,”she said adding that it was also an offense not do so.
“Remuneration and welfare package of guard is very important. You should strive to ensure that they are paid reasonably well and are registered with PenCom and NHIS,” she told the PGC owners.
She added that working with tools like rain coats, baton, scanner, torch light, walkie-talkie and others would motivate the guards to perform optimally.
Charles Ngerem, chief executive officer of Hint Security Services expressed gratitude for the workshop saying they “have taken advice on some of the things that would happen next year like the clamping down of some companies that didn’t register or renew their licenses.
“We have been forewarned to do the right thing and have discussed extensively on how to get out quacks from the service because they are like pests but we are pesticides to fight them away,” he said.
Also, the secretary of PGC owners, Capt. Sunny Obazee, said they have the responsibility to make sure that people were better secured as they are more closer to the people with over 2.5 personnel spread all over the country.
“Our strength is that we get closer to the people and have the personnel that can gather enough intelligence for maximum security,” he added.
