Angry Residents of Itoku area in Abeokuta metropolis, Ogun State, on Friday attacked the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amount and his team with stones when he visited the site of a collapsed shopping mall being constructed by the state government.
Several people were feared killed within the building after it collapsed while government confirmed one person dead.
A trader, Mrs Abike Sobande told our correspondent that the traders have been suspecting the contractors working on the building of poor job.
“This is avoidable tragedy. The story is that the building was awarded to a female chief close to Amosun who in turn sub-contracted it to her son.
“I am not an engineer, but we have been suspecting the kind of matrials they are using.
However, shout of “Ole” thief rent the air as the Governor alighted from his car, forcing the Police to fire shots into the air and use tear gas to disperse the surging crowd.
The governor however escaped unhurt as he appealed to angry crow to be calm saying government was doing everything to save the lives of the victims.
