scoring the goal

in next year’s confederation cup final for the first time
Portugal’s extra time goal hero Eder has disclosed that
Cristiano Ronaldo told him he would score when he came on as a substitute in
their 1-0 win over France.
The former Swansea striker came off the bench to score an
extra-time goal that clinched the Portugal’s first major trophy in their
history.
“We weren’t the best technical team, but we worked for each
other. Since the coach arrived he believed this group could do this,” he said.
Lille striker Eder who was dumped by Swansea earlier this
season after failing to score in 15 games and have not scored a goal since
Portugal won a friendly against Italy in June last year.
Portugal were crowned European Champions for the first time
in history at the Stad de France. The epic final proceeded into extra-time
but substitute Eder got the all-important goal after 109 minutes to ensure the
Selecao win the tournament.
The hosts made desperate fight back, but were unlucky as
goalkeeper Patricio made strings of saves to deny the hosts. It ended; Portugal
1-0 France.
Portugal, for the first time, will now feature
in next year’s Confederation Cup alongside the defending world champions
Germany, Copa America winners Chile, African Champions Cote d’Ivoire and a host
of other continental winning nations.
