Kogi East to hold senatorial rerun election July 23

INEC Office in Kogi set ablaze

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kogi State has set July 23, 2016 for the organization of the repeat rerun election in the state’s East Senatorial District.
The electoral body says, “It became essential to hold a rerun election due to the violence that spoiled the last elections which was subsequently declared inconclusive.’’
Addressing journalists in Lokoja, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Samuel Madaki Usman, said it picked July 23 after due meetings with relevant stakeholders both at the State and National levels.
The repeat rerun elections are to be held in areas such as: Ankpa, Bassa, Dekina, Ibaju, Idah, Igalamela/Odolu, Ofu and Olamaboro Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) also said that a total of 140,297 out of 643,559 registered voters are expected to participate in the election to be headed by 1,390 ad hoc staff who have been duly trained.
He assured that the lessons learnt from the previous exercises would be used in raising the bar during the elections.
Usman cautioned those who are not concerned with the electoral process to steer clear within the polling and collation centers adding that the slogan will remain “No Permanent Voters Card (PVC) no voting”.  (TV360)
