Senator Buruji Kashamu |
Prince
Buruji Kashamu, the senator representing Ogun east senatorial district at
the National Assembly, has revealed plans by some unnamed people to assassinate
him.
He also
raised alarm over an alleged plot by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency
(NDLEA) to abduct him. He also asked his family and Nigerians to be aware that
people from the government are after him.
Kashamu, in
a statement in Lagos, said he was sure the NDLEA had plans to abduct him. He
said some top people in the NDLEA had strategised to either abducted him,
attack on the streets or at a social function.
Vanguard
reports that Kashamu wondered why anyone would want him arrested or killed when
he enjoys a his rights.
He also
wondered why any legitimate body would resort to crude tactics and self-help at
a time the country had left dictatorship.
“I do not
know what I have done to them that they want to do as if Nigeria is a Banana
Republic.
"If anyone thinks he has a case against me, he should approach the
courts and allow the rule of law to prevail.
“I urge the
masses and Nigerians in general to help me beseech the Almighty Allah who has
been my help and shield to continue to protect and guide me from all manners of
evil machinations.
"They should
not kill me for my family and the thousands of Nigerians who depend on me for
their daily living.
“Politics should not be a do-or-die affair. I will always
say and stand by the truth in the interest of the masses.
“I will
always rise above primordial sentiments and selfish interest in all my
dealings, in and out of politics,” Kashamu said.
Some months
ago, Kashamu was kept under house arrest for many days in an attempt to get him
arrested for possible extradition.
He later
secured a court injunction to stop the action against him. Almost on a daily
basis in Nigeria, the NDLEA announces arrests of drug peddlers.
For example,
the NDLEA stated on Tuesday, June 21 that it apprehended 8,778 drug
traffickers in the whole of last year.
The breakdowns
of the confiscated hard drugs were as follows: Cannabis 871,480.32kg,
psychotropic substances 30,652.93kg, ephedrine is 785.10kg, methamphetamine
410.82kg, cocaine 260.47kg, heroin 30.09kg and amphetamine 4.83kg. Culled from Naij.Com
