Oliseh strips Enyeama of Super Eagles’ captaincy

Super Eagles Coach Sunday Oliseh has made a sensational declaration that fleet-footed forward Ahmed Musa is his preferred choice for the national team captain’s armband.
Musa played the captain’s role in the Super Eagles last two matches against Tanzania and Niger and while many thought it was only in a stand-in capacity, Oliseh revealed otherwise Tuesday, saying he was already looking into the future.
There was a major fall-out between Oliseh and hitherto skipper Vincent Enyeama on Tuesday night in Belgium, a development that may have further contributed to the Eagles coach making a firm declaration on the captaincy of the Eagles.
“There is no captaincy tussles …For Nigeria going forward, I need a player who is regular in the team and it is Ahmed Musa, who did a great job in Tanzania under very difficult circumstances,” Oliseh said in a radio interview with Brila FM on Wednesday morning from Belgium.
“He (Musa) is the captain of the team, not somebody who is thinking of retirement.
“A captain has to lead by example. We are not here to build stars.
“If you don’t conform to what I am trying to do, we will be friends, but we will be friends from afar,” Oliseh said.
He added: “There has been a new government and the President has picked new ministers. And that is what I have also done.”
The decision by Coach Oliseh is generating debates as some say it was wrong to treat Enyeama in such a manner while for others, the Eagles coach has absolute rights to pick whoever he deems fit to lead his team.
Ahmed Musa on 5 August 2010, at the age of 17, made his debut for the Nigerian senior team in a qualification match for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations against Madagascar, where he came on as a substitute for John Obi Mikel in a 2–0 win.
With just 52 caps to his name, Musa, 22, has only featured for Nigeria half the number of times as Enyeama who has played 101 times for the country.
Musa first captained the Super Eagles in a friendly against South Africa in March 2015. It was a memorable outing for the CSKA Moscow forward in Cape Town as he scored one of his best goals in national team colours in that tie.
