A non socio- political organization, under the auspices of Coalition for the Total Transformation of Esanland, CTTE has threatened to mobilize the people of Edo central senatorial district against the All Progressive Congress, APC candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election billed for September 10, 2016 over failure by the party to zone the State House of Assembly Speakership position to the Esan people
In a statement signed by one Mr. Thomas Ayemere and made available to newsmen in Benin City, the group who warned against returning the position of the speaker to Edo South vowed to work against the party during the governorship election.
According to the group, the present arrangement in the state and the Edo House of Assembly negates the principles of fairness, equity and justice. The group further frowned at a situation where a senatorial district was currently occupying the position of the deputy governor and the speaker while the Edo central was left with nothing.
They posited that , going into the election with this arrangement in the state would be disastrous adding that it portrays marginalisation of the senatorial district. They however vowed to resist any attempt to further marginalise the Esan people by any political party. “We promise to support any of the APC legislators who has the interest of Edo Central senatorial district at heart. “The issue of being a first time legislator in the house should not arise as section two of the Edo House of Assembly rules stipulates that for a member to be a speaker or deputy speaker, he must have legislative experience.
“A requirement that both Mr Justin Okonoboh a member represent APC Igueben and Festus Edughele member representing APC Esan South East constituencies have owing to their robust legislative activities,” the statement said.
