The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has scheduled October 8 for the conduct of election into the 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the State.

The chairperson of the electoral body, Alhaja Risikat Ogunfemi disclosed this at a press conference.

She said the election was in compliance with Section 197(1)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and Section 10(1) of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission Law 2007 (as amended).

Ogunfemi assured members of the public of level playing ground to all participating political parties and appealed to youths to desist from being used as political thugs in the election.

She also appealed to politicians to play the game according to the universal rule of “one man, one vote.”

Corroborating the chairman, a commissioner in the electoral body, Barrister Mutiu Agboke submitted that OGSIEC would maintain “no PVC, no election” system in the conduct of the election.

Agboke also said that forms would be given out to aspirants free of charge based on a court judgment against the body on whether it has the right to sell forms to aspirants.

He said the body would work in tandem with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on issue of factionalisation of political parties.
