Lagos big boy and owner of Sujimoto Construction Limited, Sijibomi Ogundele has been served a quit notice by his landlord, Akin Marinho, a lawyer and the former General Counsel and Company Secretary at FBN Capital and RMB Nigeria and a member of one of the old money families of Lagos Island from his rented detached 5-bedroom residential house situated in the exclusive highbrow area of Queens Drive; Ikoyi.
Sijibomi, the self-styled “Donald Trump of Nigeria” is the Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Group of Companies which comprises of real-estate, finance and energy divisions; and currently wants to build the tallest residential building in Lagos the “Lorenzo by Sujimoto”.
The quit notice which was dated May 5, 2015 asked him to relinquish the property at the expiration of his two-year tenancy which expired on 31st March 2016. However, it appears the real estate guru is preparing for a fight as he is still staying put at the premises and has instructed his lawyer to seek a perpetual injunction to restrain the landlord from ejecting him; despite the landlord alleging Sijibomi owes him millions of naira and breaching several covenants in the tenancy agreement.
Sijibomi also alleges that his landlord stole his $120,000 Frank Muller wrist watch and beat him up. This development has forced his landlord to begin eviction proceedings. The case will be heard at the Lagos State High Court.
