The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has appealed to all ethnic nationalities to embrace peace and refrain from making inflammatory statement that could disrupt peaceful co-existence in the country.
Malam Gambo Jagindi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President of NYCN, Alhaji Murtala Garba made the appeal in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
Jagindi also advised leaders of all ethnic groups to stop making demands that could cause anarchy, disorder and fear in the country.
He said the council was appealing to all aggrieved groups to embrace peace as the country belongs to all Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic background.
He said all aggrieved persons and groups were at liberty to state their demands without recourse to violent, threat, intimidation and insult.
According to Jagindi, it is customary or normal in a pluralistic society like Nigeria, there are bound to be disagreements which should be resolve amicably without hurting anybody.
“The appeal is particularly to Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Ohanaeze Youth Wing, Indigenous People of Biafra, Oodudua Youths, Niger Delta Youth, Arewa Elders forum and any other ethnic nationality that may want to join forces.
“It is only in an atmosphere of peace that a meaningful development can be achieved and we are better together as Nigerians, ’he said.
Jagindi said that the council would adopt holistic approach to dispute resolution techniques with a view to addressing the situation.
The National Matron of NYCN, Hannatu Mohammed disclosed that the council was planning to hold a security summit with youth leaders across the 36 states and the FCT to address the issue.
She urged the National Orientation Agency to partner with the council in order to enhance the efficiency of the campaign. (NAN)
