Oshiomhole tackles ‘criminal’ governors who don’t pay workers

The Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has criticised governors who fail to pay their workers, saying such act is criminal.

Mr. Oshiomhole said this while delivering a keynote address at a town hall organised by the Kukah Centre on Wednesday.

He said the failure to pay salaries violates the labour law, which stipulates when workers should be paid.

Mr. Oshiomhole said it was immoral for governors and national assembly members who enjoy fixed benefits to complain of resources to pay the national minimum wage.

Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has asked Governor Adams Oshiomhole to refund the money Chief Lucky Igbinedion expended on his elections in 2007.

The refund, Pastor Ize-Iyamu said, became necessary because Governor Oshiomhole has consistently accused his predecessor of looting the state treasury.

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole said the engine of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is dead.
He was referring to the party’s bid to reclaim the state in the September 10 governorship election.

He said this yesterday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benin, the state capital.
