Coronavirous: Gov. Dapo Abiodun Commissions Three COVID-19 Isolation Centres

Ogun State Government’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 within the state received a massive boost today, Monday, when Governor Dapo Abiodun commissioned  two of the three isolation centres.

Governor Abiodun commissioned the purpose-built isolation centres in Ikenne and Sagamu which has 128 bed and 21 beds respectively, the two of the three in Ogun State – the third being located in Iberekodo, Abeokuta with 100 beds.

The announcement came on the heel of Governor Abiodun’s disclosure that the restriction order from the Presidency on internal movements of good and persons within Ogun State would no longer take effect from tomorrow but from Friday, 3rd April, 2020.

“This is a result of my talks with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR to allow our people to make use of the time between now and then to prepare for the lockdown. The presidential order however implies that the interstate and international border closure I earlier ordered now takes effect from 11pm today, March 30,” Abiodun explained.

In a statement released, the Governor further reiterated Ogun State Government’s effort to set up a test centre within the state “so that we do not have to wait for days to have results returned from our neighbour Lagos State, while we have produced 140,000 hand sanitizers for free distribution to everyone within the State.

“We have enabled our health sector through purposive training, provision of equipment and ambulances, and the assurance of technical, logistic and manpower support from the Babcock University Teaching Hospital (BUTH), Ilishan-Remo and the OOUTH, Sagamu.

“Also, I am proud to announce that as a government which has controlled this pandemic from reaching its exponential stage, we remain the first State Government amidst all these to begin televised class sessions, tagged OgunDigiClass for pupils and students of primary and secondary schools who are caught at home as a result of the extant restrictions.

“We will be using the period between now and Friday to finalise modalities on how to reach vulnerable people and the needy with stimulus packages that include mainly food items,” Abiodun said.
